Custom Wheel Building

What is a custom wheel? Simply put it is any wheel built by a professional and experienced mechanic. Contrary to the popular media, the best wheels are still hand built one at a time vs. the machine built wheels. Nothing can come close! Let me build your next wheels, you may send me your hubs, rims, and spokes or I can supply everything. If there is a particular hub or rim you want tell me, chances are that I can get it! My wheels are guaranteed that they will never go out of true..the wheels will "stand".

I use Sapim spokes exclusively..and after an initial consultation it is decided which type of spoke from the Sapim family to use. I can also tie and solder the spokes if that's what you require (highly recommended)! This makes the wheel much more stiffer and puts less wear on spoke cross. Simply put: the wheel is noticeable more dynamic. By the way, I use my very own custom spoke tension measuring device (top secret and self designed...way better than the Hozan, DT and WS brands...sorry fellas!) and I also use a custom designed truing jig with a wheel runout accuracy of .005 inches (that is the thickness of a piece of paper!!).

I've been building wheels for well over 20 years for the likes of the US National Cycling team, Polish National Track team, and often serve as a consultant for various bike companies that make their own wheels (due to competitive & legal reasons I can't mention names). Every wheel I build has each spoke thread preped; I'm also one of the few wheelbuilders in the world to use spoke head washers (not to be confused with nipple washers) on all wheels...these little beauties are worth their weight in gold! Why??...just ask me. By the way, I use about 8000 spokes a year to build wheels!

Labor Rates

  • Lacing and truing rate per wheel: $45
